It's me again, with another little mystery to solve.

My cousin, Sgt. Vincent Christel, was trained as a Flexible Turret Gunner during World War II. The record I received from the NARA shows that this was his MOS, and that he was assigned to the 41st Bombardment Squadron (Very Heavy), 501st Bombardment Group (VH). Here's the problem: the record shows that he was only awarded the Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, and the WWII Victory Medal. However, I know from doing a little research that the 501st Bombardment Group deployed to the Pacific where it earned three battle stars and a Distinguished Unit Citation - none of which are listed on Vincent's record (not even the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal). I know that when he enlisted in August 1943, the Air Corps was needed all of the qualified aerial gunners they could get their hands on to fly combat missions - particularly when the B-29 came into service and they needed men to be trained up and ready to deploy to fly missions against Japan. The 41st BS/501st BG is the only unit listed on his record, and I can't imagine that he would have been left behind when his unit deployed. Is it possible that he did deploy and that whatever awards he got for serving in the Pacific were omitted by mistake or were lost due to the St. Louis fire?
Would anyone out there possibly have rosters for the 41st BS or the 501st BG?

    Thank you!

P.S.: Completely unrelated, but would anyone with a copy of Brandon Weigand's Index to All Hands for WWII be able to look up Boatswain's Mate 1st Class James N. Christel? I have a copy, but it is packed away someplace and I can't seem to find it, and I'm pretty sure he was listed in there - I just can't remember for what award. Thank you again!!!

Would it be possible to post what you received from NARA?

Unfortunately, I think the record I got from the NARA is packed up and I can't get to it. However, I did jot down his unit, serial number, awards, dates of service, etc in a spreadsheet program. I'll have to get everything I have from the spreadsheet when I have some time later on.
