Since the M4 was arguably superior to the T34 saying one was "not the best" and the other was a "wonder machine" seams a bit strange.

A catchy jingle, but the 'Panzer IV' bit at the end seems to disrupt the flow.

Since we have ceased to talk about sherman or pzIVs opr even tanks at all, I'm thinking of closing this down.

    Please stay on topic.

    Roger that Boss.

Ahem. Anyway, IMO, the Panzer IV and Sherman where just about equal. The end, full stop, end of story.
    Okay, what to do now......

It is interesting how things can change quickly during war. Despite all its flaws, the British were willing to buy thousands of M3 Lees/Grants due to the superior 75mm gun. And it performed very well in initial outings in Africa. And the Sherman was much better than the M3. The trouble is that they were soon outpaced by the Germans. Even so, there were so many variants that it is hard to pin point any one fault. They did make a lot of the 76 mm and 105 mm versions. And the added armor of the E8 versions used on D-Day performed well.

if I can ask this : did the Allies ever produce a low-slung tank destroyer model similar to the Wehrmachts Stug III/Pzjgr IV. with a 75mm ? not that they needed to but

For the Commonwealth the closest would likely be the Valentine Archer, but not really the same thing with it's open top and higher profile.

There were a few strange Armoured car experiments like the Morris Firefly (6pdr) among a smattering of others but they unsurprisingly came to nothing:

I can't think of anything off-bat but the Archer.

    Cheers,
    Adam.

the British amalgamation of the 17 pounder with the Sherman is one of the most notable achievements of the Allies against the Panzers, But Germany did have a schedule of fearsome tanks in the pipeline given a few more years on the war. This included the 1000 tonne beast in initial development, would have looked like a Big Bertha on building with tank tracks.

doch it never would of materialized as the Panzerabteilungs were already down % wise with the usual II Abt. with Pz IV and then reverting to the Stug III to fill their ranks

it would have been cumbersome and horribly expensive to manufacture but the psychological effect would have distraught even chuck norris. The Sherman's rough comparative panzer would be PzIV but each shared different qualties at which they excelled, shermans had fantastic sloping armour but were not so adept to rear (like most armoured units) and side hits, while the PzIV was designed to support infantry and possessed an above average armourment. Later PzIV had extended shielding on the side and turret, these were most notably used on the eastern front.
