Well, enough then. It's going into circles, like the Bismarck, but this time there IS a rudder and someone just doesn't want to use it and turn it...
It was wonderful watch, but most of it has little historic value. Its a movie to make americans feel good, do you feel good after watching it.
You do realize it is a British production don't you? True, it made the audience feel good, but not just Americans. It was filmed about 20 miles outside of London at the Pinewood studios in 1959. And at the time the largest "water tank" was made for the filming (I think).
Interesting resurrecting a thread that's almost 7 years old. If you have time to do this why not actually read up on the ships you are promoting so you can demonstrate that you actually know something about them?
Hi S.M/ I have it on Dvd and watch it on occasion. I enjoy Kenneth More and everytime i see the movie-I like it more and more even if not truely accurate? ;-))
I dont know about the feelgood factor in America, but the real thing made the British nation feel good....Chief of the naval staff gave a speech at the city of London Guildhall about naval matters in general...ended with...and a great recording still exists...master of the British understatement..at end of his speech on nothing in particular....He tells his audience...and tonight I can tell you we have avenged the Hood...We have sunk the Bismark...The Hall erupted...Didnt see that in the film...
I have heard that on a WAV file someplace, I'll look around for the thing and share it if I find it again. It is very "understatement" to be sure.
Just rewatched the movie. I think the shot of the British destroyer being blown up is a miniature shot from 'Run Silent Run Deep'.
They reused a couple of shots from other movies when making STB... If any of you have a Netflix subscription, it's available right now in "Watch Instantly."
And for those interested, i know who has a few original stills for sale from this movie and I might be getting them.
