Wow... outstanding documents. The only burial pics I have from High rank officers are from 1929 and deal with General Foch's burial.
Thankyou, these are a lovely set. But i have a rarer "grave pic". It's part of a group that i've yet to sort out & scan. Keep you posted & as soon as i've sorted the grouping out,i'll post it. Stewy
There is something quite stirring about a flag-draped casket on a caisson which I can't explain but have always felt. It seems one of the highest honors of respect to someone who has died. Looking at photo #1 in post #3, the caisson is clearly horse-drawn. However, in photo #3 in post #4, we see the the rear of some vehicle to which the caisson is hitched. Do you know if that was a motorized vehicle or had a wagon perhaps been hitched between the horse team and the caisson?
Hi i think it depends on where they were taken. As you notice there are three different flags on the coffin. One used in Prague & the other two in Germany. Someone did explain to me why,but i'm damned if i can remember. I think the SS one was used in Prague as a show of strength to the Cechs. Stewy
Some nice pic there. The guy wearing the white tunic looks like he's Austrian. Speaking of Austrians, I narowly missed out on some great pre-war Austrian Airforce pics. I only missed those pics thanks to an always ssssslllllooooowwww running computer Grrrr.
Hi,i got these pics together. An SS guy & his horse & the other pic. Now to me it looks like the same fella. Comments appreciated. Stewy
Quite possible. But didn't they all look the same in their wire framed specs? I have quite a few german photos. from various sources, and I'd swear that the same person(s) are in a number of them.
Hi Stewy, I think its a different guy. The fist man (SS) has a longer chin, than the second. regards John
