Oh don't put our navy down so badly. For all its flaws it hits above its weight. Collins class gives US carriers a run for their money while at the moment we are getting ready to deploy upgraded Anzac frigates Aka Robofrigate

Hey Von Noobie..actually i was suggesting the US coast guard is a professional outfit with some good hardware at their disposal...The Australian Navy is suffering from:

A recruiting problem - long standing and not looking like its going to improve any time soon.
B A chronic and i mean a CHRONIC lack of sufficient funding (like the rest of the ADF) - You are right, we always punch well above our weight, and are among only a few truly professional and functional navies in the world. We (The Royal Australian Navy) already has an illustrious history...

    Ah glad to hear that.

That said while I agree with A, B is a little more debatable. It all depends on if the funds are being spent wisely, If their is one thing I have learnt is that people in government jobs tend to get them selves ripped off massively ie: $900 for each shelf 60x90x1800 at a school I worked at, Went to a shop and had same thing qouted for $90... However when it comes to funding I believe it should be consistant rather then periods of highs and low's.

Fully agree...I think it's in addition to rather than instead of though...

Agreed as with most things in life it is rarely a single thing but a number of issues combined
