Any Tank that can be produced in large enough quantities to meet demand can be termed 'strategic', just as any other weapon in good availability, with a solid production base, is a very significant strategic resource.

    Cheers,
    Adam.

Exhaustive tit for tat flag waver where "Johnny come lately" non-issue players are all-inclusive.

I believe this is for "Major" players (though subjective)(still caught up in committee).

Remember "Life" begins with ... "Hey Baby, can I buy you a drink."

.>>CrazyD: Well all things considered here, your probably right. The Panther and the Tiger I were positively better gun platforms with superior optics. The M4A3E2 armed with a 76mm gun offset it's firepower inferiority to those tanks with it's better protection. What I will say is that the M4A3E2's frontal protection and it's turret (the most exposed on most any tank and most likely to be hit) protection, Is that it was much better. Better to the point that firing standard AP or rationed APCR shot, It may just have had a slightly better chance against the Panther and Tiger I. That with those two German tank types firing the same type of ammo. (standard AP and APCR).<<

They would have been a lot more effective if the offer to licence build 17 pounders in the same way that the US licence built the 57mm gun for use in the Sherman this would have made the Shermans fire power about the same level as a tiger and superior to a panther.

    Hmmm.
    The Centurian was post-WW2.
The Hetzer and JagdPanther where not tanks.
Other than that, A fine list. :)

JCF, if the thread dies, we loose all the enjoyment of destroying Noobie's confidence in their knowlage of this subject! :D

I guess thats true. I guess you can never have enough threads to bash the Sherman or to compare different types of AFVs as if they were all the same or used the designed for the same purpose ..

Noel, that seems a decent list but the order tanks are in there could be contested. How about you gave us your reasons?

Why the Grant, the Pershing? Why not the Pz III (long) ? :)

A tank is a tank, I like them all. I think all tanks were the best. (maybe excluding the Italians.. well the P.40 was pretty much there best, but it was FAR too late) At the time they were created they were good perhaps? All tanks had problems it was just more obvious (for me to criticize) with the German's I'd say because they had to fix everything via war.

Just imagine if the war last 2 more years what tanks we would be seeing

The T-54? This was in production in 1947 and what a mighty tank it was for the period.

    But we're going off-topic.

Whoooo Hooo!!!! More Sherman bashing ! BTW you listed 3 self propelled guns. History bears out that the Sherman was not awful and went on to soldier on for many years after the war. Even taking out T-34s.

unfortanelty not everyone is educated or well knowledged on specific subjects and only relate to video games, myths, pictures and just social occurrences to use there decisions.

Thats what he thinks, and you can ignore it easily, thats what im doing :) Personally I love the Sherman, great look, great numbers, depedable machine except it being a death contraption, but even then?
