I would not bid on photos like the ones you saw on EBAY.
I did the following to get photos/films for my documentary
My rule first off was to match the footage/photos with what my interviews were about.so when they talk of hungarian forced labor i found actual photos of that and in the areas they talked of.and so on for the rest
    SOURCES
1.purchased the rights to use photos thru Holocaust Museum and spent $1500 plus
2.was given some photos thru Yad Vashem in Israel for use
3.Received 2 hours of Hungarian News Reels from the source in Hungary for use for free as non-profit project.they were very helpful
4.used Jewish "Yitzkor" book for Marmaros County.A "Yitzkor" book is a memorial book to all Jewish communities that were in Marmaros County. This book was in Yiddush and my uncle translated for me.I scanned many pictures of Jewish Life before WW2 as well as informative historical info
5.used books on the subject and scanned photos from those books. There were 100's of books I went thru in research.Actually wrote to some publishers who gave permission
6.used my friend Stephan's huge collection of old postcards from Austro-Hungary and Czech Republic
7.used a film called Jewwish Farmers In Carpathia.one 16mm 12 minute reel shot a few villaghes away from the seat of my family.film was shot in Apsha my family is from small village of Luh
8.received more film footage from Simon Weisenthal Center for free use in my project
9.recived maps thru interlibrary loan of that region before and during WW2

I did a ton of work in other words.................................3 - 5 years worth to make a big documentary on Carpathia/N.Romania

Hi G/ I dont bid on pics showing things like that as I think they are in very bad taste. I also dont like photos showing the dead, those in forced labor, or people begging. Those who bid on those type of images unless for the purpose of doing something to educate people on what happened? must be some pretty sick people. A few times ive bid on destroyed vehicles and such-but none of them show dead people or animals. Had they done so? I would not have bid on them.

I do own a couple showing wounded soldiers, but these are mostly after they were "patched up" and you dont see unnecessary gore (pardon the pun) in them. Also, I do like collecting images of prisoners of war. I have a few showing German PWs, several showing Russian PWs, a couple with French PWs and one or two with Polish PWs. I tried to get some with Tommy and GI PWs, but those always go for much more than im willing to spend on a subject that usually come sup when im bidding on much better subjected pix ;-)

I only have those photos i got from holocaust museum that are gruesome grim stuff.
needed em to illustrate specific points.
and they worked perfect for what i was working on.
some folks will collect the strangest relics of war.

Fully agree with why you have certain pics as well as that they do collect the strangest of things. I know one guy who seems to only bid on photos of Soldiers on Latrines "doing time" Ive seen some that are actually comical but, you also see the "spent fuel rods" too-which I think is in distaste too.

I try collecting buy by selected subject matter-i'e, Award Ceremony pics, pics showing certain rare pieces of gear in usage, combat photos when I can nab some, and destroyed or captured equipment pics. Also, any that have something in them that will tell me where they are at and things like that.

that sounds like a good philosophy.
you probably have a decent collection.
my collection is mostly scifi books and scifi antigue pulp magazines.
i do own around 150 decent WW2 books in 1st editions.and i do collect WW2 films and documentaries.
i have to many WW2 documentaries on external hard drives as well as DVD's.

Danke and muchos gracias ;-)) I try to keep the subject matter at a level that anyone can enjoy the pics without the needless SPR-type thing in them. It never fails to amaze me at how much money people will pay to get pics of deceased Soldiers or Civilians. Also, the number of people bidding against each other for these.

Also, tonight i got two pics that I think are great-shoes no bodies ;-) One is of a knocked out KV-1 Tank, the other tells me a great story as it has 4 KOed T-34s in it-which in itself, is a rare type photo ;-)) This one in particular must have been one heck of a scrap the opposing sides had there. The field these tanks are in, also seems to be wet, as these tanks left deep ruts all over the place and are sunk in almost to their hulls.

Good to know that there was a Resistance from the jewish side.
My school all ways talk about the holocaust and how hopeless the Jews were and never spoke of the jewish Resistance ! I fined it disappointing from my school because i live in israel and they should have spoke more about the jewish resistance instead of just how jews were hopeless.
    Nice stories !

I'm very surprised that Israeli schools don't teach about the various Jewish resistance movements, ranging from the Warsaw Ghetto to those enumerated in this thread.

you should make a trip over to Yad Vashem since you live in Israel.
I went to Israel in 81' w/ brother and my dad.We went to Yad Vashem and after we got out my dad started crying.I had never seen him cry before.
It was very sad.He went thru hell in WW2 and so did our family. You can check out my Holocaust Memorial here if interested.
    Kratz Family Auschwitz Memorial

there were many cases of resistance and in many forms.
two of my aunts used to spit or put water in the ammo they were forced to make so it would not fire.that is a form of resistance in a concentration camp that would of had them beaten and killed for sabotage.
my dad was in an underground cell in budapest till he was turned in.
my uncle fred was in schindler's factory.to help his sister out and others he would take scraps of potatoes and bake them in the ovens where he was working then smuggle them to others
my dad lied to the germans about his skills in dachau so he could get out of there.he thought that lying about being a machinist would get him a better job.IT DID.he ended up in 3 other work camps till liberation.
my dad's friend and boss in budapest was captured by the nazis.to break him out of jail the underground payed a hungarian general tens of thousands of dollars in gold, etc.the general put uniforms on these jewish underground members and marched them into the prison with false orders.Willy got released and survived the war.

just a few tales of fighting back even though none used guns and weapons.
