Sorry, but I find it naive to think that you can have a good outcome in a nation where 75 or 80% of the population thinks anyone converting from Islam should be put to death. These people are immersed in a very primitive and violent ideology and we should have as little as possible to do with them. That doesn't mean they can't be lifted out of it. Turkey did it, but it's taken many years of secular rule and education to bring about that change, and all of that effort was from within. There's no way we can bring about that change from the outside and any attempt to do so will just inflame the Jihadis.
You don't understand their culture. Most will say whatever they think the pollster wants to hear. Add to that, that many polls are constructed and the questions phrased in such a way as to get a desired response, usually supporting the position of the group that commissions the poll. Many of the people say one thing with regards to their religious beliefs, for popular consumption, but when not subjected to peer pressure act differently. I've seen them pile a plate up with ham and or bacon, eat it like a starving man when only around americans and hide it under a napkin when another Muslim comes near. More times than not the other Muslim has a big pile of forbidden pork under a napkin on his plate and both pretend they can't see what the other is doing. In many areas, especially if there is a radicalized Islamic presence there, no matter how small, they will spout off in apparent agreement because if they don't want a visit in the middle of the night to correct their attitude. Not so different from how non Nazis had to act under Hitler's regime or non-hardline communists during Stalin's reign or during the cold war. It's a normal survival instinct.
I'm sure there's some truth to what you say, after all we have all had Muslim friends and acquaintances in the US and didn't worry about them blowing us up. But... it is the radicals setting the tone, and the moderates going along with it. There were some polls in the UK recently, where even there without any pressure, 40% of Muslims favored Sharia law. It gets much worse inside middle eastern nations. I think we should withdraw and let them kill each other. There's no upside for them or us, to get involved.
Now that you mention it (the eating of forbidden bacon), had a neighbor way back. They were the only non caucasian this 8 yr old ever met. That was early 70's. They were very successful. Part owner of a large toy company (Tops and Toys). Which was weird cause it was white city back then. Also the Shabens and Hamdens. Maybe they laid the path for the Ghermezian's, who built West Edmonton Mall...Wonder about the connection now....Look at me, all Sherlock Holmes and shiznitz.
