Sounds like everyone had a great Christmas...I got some unexpected gifts, as we usually exempt ourselves due to it always being a strain to just pay for three kids and their fondness of electronics. My wife got me a compact game processing kit that will fit in my bugout bag...very nice! My in-laws got me a great D-Day book with fold out maps and such...also very excellent. I bought myself a couple of items for the pack as well. Very nice Christmas over all.
Oh and I forgot to include that I also received a nice wool knit 3 button henley sweater and an 18 year old bottle of single malt scotch! It was a very Merry Christmas indeed. Sounds like everyone else made out pretty good as well. Now for some whirrled peas!
A cruise with the family. Just a 3 day local cruise, but still Holland America and getting the family together for 3 days is great. KTK
I didn't get much this year. I just got a little money. But considrering things could be a lot worse, I'm happy to have decent health and family and friends that care for me. That's all I really need it's been a rough couple months and I'm just glad it's behind me.
Books! All given to me by Mrs Skipper and chosen by help without any help. WW2 Collectables by M Haskew Wehrmacht combat helmets (Offsprey) Helmets of WWI (Shiffer) 1940 le soldat Francais (vol. 1) and much more....
Now that sounds like a great gift, one that will mean a lot for years because of the memories it will help preserve.
I had an amazing Christmas. We'd gone out and bought all the perfect presents for everyone and got together with the exended family for Christmas eve. But all that was ordinary, like every year. On Christmas Eve day, my oldest son (Chris) asked that we drive 50 miles south to see a section of highway that they'd just named for a friend of his, a LCpl that was killed on 10 Nov. 2006, when they were in Iraq together. We did. When we got home there were four boxes from Amazon.com sitting on the porch, from the son in Afghanistan (Ryan). How he did it, I do not know since they're going to "River City" all the time. (River City is a communications blackout instituted when a unit suffers a casualty so that the Marine Corps has a chance to notify the next of kin before the news leaks out). We restrained the urge to open the presents right away and when we opened them Christmas morning he'd sent each of a perfect gift (I got two, his mom was supposed to get two but one is still in transit, and his brother got one). He sent me a Kindle and a gift card for e-books, his mom a Nikkon S3000 12 megapixel camera (and a yet to be determined gift) and his brother a Fender Telecaster Nashville Deluxe. The most amazing part is that he's in Afghanistan with virtually nothing and he was thinking of us. The picture above is Chris playing the new guitar on Christmas morning in Ryan's room. The very, very best part is no Marines were killed on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day in Afghanistan.
I got the ever needed and always used clothes this year for Christmas. Shirt's, jeans, drawers, socks, the usual. I also seemed to manage a decent score in other regards as well. Received a nice wireless router this year so I can finally get of the wire and a trio of Books. On Sea's Contested, An additional Volume of Morrison's History of United States Naval Operations in World War II (submarine ops?), and a nice coffee table book War: The Definitive Visual History.
I got some nice clothes as well. My In-laws got me a WWII movie pack: Battle of Britain, A Bridge Too Far, Run Silent, Run Deep, and The Great Escape. My wife got the BBC series "Have You Been Served?" and we have had a good steady laugh since Christmas morning.
All I got for Christmas this year was some time with the family, some snack food, a pipe extension, an aluminum rod, a pop-up drain, an iTunes gift card, and a few bucks. At least it was enough to build a lightsaber prop
I was going to make a lightsaber for holloween...didn't have the tools for it though. Didn't want to buy a 100 dollar tool.
I just scored another gift today, the UPS guy delivered the 6 disk, box-set of HBO's The Pacific to my door! Since I don't get HBO, nor any other cable channel, I look forward to giving it a watch. From what I have read here and on other reviews, I'll like it. My buddy outside of Sun City AZ. knew of my love of all things WW2, and picked this for myself. I just called to thank the man, and he apologized for it getting there late! Kripes, I didn't care about that in the least. I look forward to many hours of entertainment.
Secret Santa got himself a nice new deer rifle: A Savage Arms Edge XP with scope in .308 caliber. Look out, Bambi! As for militaria see http://www.ww2f.com/other-militaria/42706-whats-your-newest-militaria-iii-24.html
I think you'll like the series, my one request is that you post your impressions after watching for us all to enjoy! I bought two sets of "The Pacific" for Christmas, one for each son.
