Thank you for your take on Grand Torino ;-)) Ill buy a copy of it as soon as I see them hit the shelves here in Houstonstownsvillesburgsdorff ;-)) I did that with Valkyrie and will have to do that with Star Trek. I haven't seen Trek out yet-and just as I was typing this-a commercial came on advertising that Grand Torino will be available as of June 9th ;-))

If Torino is going to be his last acting job-im definately going to have to own and watch it.

Since I've been on sick leave from work for about a week, I was able to catch reruns of Combat! and the original Mission Impossible series on cable.
As for mentioning Star Trek, all I could say is I watched the movie five times in one week.

Watched a DVD I stumbled across at the Library a few days ago. It was titled "Airwars: Fighter Aircraft of WWII", and featured documentaries on the Spitfire, Hurricane, 109, and 190. It was a good set, but suffered from an unfortunate problem of repetition in the narration and stock footage that was featured.

I watched most of: The One That Got Away, on rented dvD this afternoon0however, I couldn't see about 1/4th of the movie because something was wrong with the DvD. Guess ill have to reorder it getting a different copy. This movie-for those who never heard of it or seen it-is a very good and very early English movie for Hardy Kruger-who portrays RKT Oberleutnant Franz von Werra. This movie is based on his story on how he escaped British PoW camps and eventually succeeded making it back to Germany to fly and fight once again. The real life von Werra was killed I think in 1943??? The movie all takes place before the USA entered WWII.

Just got around to watching a free DVD I got with the Daily Telegraph on Saturday, two 45 minute Movietone newsreels Italy to D-Day & D-Day to Paris. Or so the main documentary The True Glory - From D-Day to the Fall of Berlin, introduction by General Eisenhower and commentary by those who took place in it. Very good, enjoyed it all.

Sure is-if it's the one that stars Burt Lancaster, Paul Scofield and Wolfgang Priess. I think this movie was directed by John Frankenheimer? can't remember? but-the movie is excellent.

Yep Carl is right, Burt Lancaster is part of the French Underground and with the help of others he tries to stop a German Colonel from stealing rare French paintings in August 1944.

    It's a b/w film.

I'm still working on the "Band of Brothers" box set of the series. I am up to their involvement in Market Garden.

Quite welcome and it's an excellent film. BTW, did you know that Burt Lancaster did all of his stunts in that movie. What you see is what you get. One of his best stunts was the scene where he is sliding down a ladder and is going o try to stop that old Frenchman from running his train through the trainyards as they are being bombed. Excellent footage.

yesterday I just finished watching a 1hr and 1 min-doc about the attempts to assassinate Hitler. It was infrmative but nothing new. I was disappointed in the fact that the sights and sounds had not been restored. It looked awful and sounded bad. I also got lucky that TCM had some Bogie movies on yesterday including the great: Treasure of the Sierra Madre-and The Maltese Falcon. Then I caught part of: The Seven Samurai-with Toshiro Mifune.

I just saw a documentary on Hitler - The Rape of Europa. It was about Hitler's love for artwork, but also how the Germans would steal a lot of the famous artwork in the countries they occupied.

LAst night I finished the day with a great James Stewart classic: Shenandoah. One of Dukes Sons-Pat Wayne was in it as well as Paul Fix (the Doctor) Doug McClure (the Confederate Lieutenant) Phillip Alford (Boy) Harry Carey Jr (A Confederate prisoner escapee) James Best (another Confederate escapee from a yankee ship) and so many others.

I just watched "Valkyrie" last night. It was a good film but I got the feeling more could have been done with it. It didn't "grip" me like I expected it, to. On the other hand, it seemed to be quite historically accurate, which is more the exception than the rule when it comes to American made films about WWII.

Now I'm waiting to see "Red Tails" about the Tuskegee Airmen. I was at Cosford Airshow yesterday where I saw a P-40 which was used in the film and was therefore painted in this unit's colours.
