Only if the tank could arrive earlier than the Grants and Shermans did. Could it? Anyone?

Welcome to the forum by the way, Dupe!

But in my little 'what if' fantasy I have given the RAM the turret of the Sherman...
I know that the 2pdr tank would not have been effective - and so did they. It was never planned to carry the 2pdr, but shortages of the 6pdr meant that it had to. However, with the Sherman 75mm turret...
Remember, the 2 tanks were developed seperately, but at the same time.

    (bangs head against wall)

Ok - as stated in my first post - this is for 'what-ifs'

these can be what if a certain tank was actually used, or if a tank that was used (or in development) had had changes made

    eg:
What if the Sentinel was used?

What if the RAM hull was used as the standard 'Sherman' hull?

But shorter range and a lack of HE ammunition.

Why do you think the Sherman was so popular?
    (well, one reason!)

yes that's true but also becaus the lack of heavy german tanks ment that most tanks like the cromell and armourd cars like the aec3 used it

The AECII was quite a heavy armoured car that used the 6pdr as AT defence for recon units.
The next version, the AECIII, even carried a modified American 75mm gun.

    I found this...
    http://www.armyvehicles.dk/aecmkiii.htm

Anyway, a 75mm with long(er) range and a decent HE shell (plus a decent supply of these!)* would have given a big advantage given the lack of German heavies, surely?

Why fight on equal terms if you can have superiority?

*Yes, the HE shell has bog-all to do with fighting tanks, but they were jolly useful, and (I would guess) used far more often, in far more circumstances than AP shells.

    I'll say!

About that E10, if the gun is really a 75mm L/48 like the one on the Hetzer then this vehicle isn't that much smaller. The gun projects just about as far, so in length and probably width the two are about the same. In heigth though this E10 gains a lot... Can you tell us more about it?

Not much beyond the fact that it was another prototype that did not get anywhere.
The picture comes from a modelling magazine - not much info was given about the tank.
One thing that was brought up - if you have a tank that is basically a Hetzer, but smaller, where do you put the ammunition?

    I'll do a little Google-based browsing & investigate.
