Again, Carl, you seem to be missing my point... which one do you feel bad about, "all middle eastern men registering with authorities", or the actual story?
"Not doing research on whats going on now doesnt necessarily disqualify me of being able to think--does it?"
No, it surely dosen't. But to "opine" on something you do not understand? If you do not know about something, how can you have an opinion on it? That would be like me having an opinion on politics in England- something I know nothing about. And as a segway, that would be like me correcting Erich on his Luftwaffe stuff- something I know very little about.

Give me a break, Erich... people should post garbage just so the rest of us can shoot it down? Yeah, that makes sense... Recall your posts when I made the mistaken claim about armaments on a P-47... you shot that down pretty quickly- and rather forcefully. And I made myself look rather ignorant. See a pattern?

Again, you two seem to be missing my whole point. In general, people certainly should not go off spending hours researching every single post. But if you are going to bash a country (which will certainly get some emotions raised), if you are going to post something about the SS from a website (duh...), or something else on a sensitive subject , (that would be a sensitive subject in case you gents missed it again), please, try to at least not "post out of your ass". 'Cause I can garauntee that it will bother someone, wether or not they call you on it.

And on the Neo-Nazi sites (which I didn't really want ot bring up, but it is part of the same trend)... I certainly don't pay them any attention either.

But what about someone who logs onto this forum for the first time? If they look at that post first... and there is no apparent condemnation of the site... what conclusion would you come to if you were that person?

Honestly, this whole thing just suprises me a bit. I know I'm an editor, so I tend to notice this stuff more, but still...

'Least that's the way I see it...

Really though, that being said, this is not all that big a deal, even for me. The "info" on the US bugged me a bit- cause it was so obviously retarded, and 'cause I am a bit proud of my country (NOT proud of Bush, etc. etc.).

Just keep in mind, gents... unless Otto bans me, you guys have a rather proficient Editor running around in your midst.

    So beware!

(come on, guys.. this should be partially seen as an invitation. After I say this, just think how nice it would be to catch me posting something ill-conceived!)
(Don't start with typos though... we'll all be out on the street!)

Apparently in the UK tonight we have one policeman stabbed to death and five others in hospital after raiding a Manchester address under the 'prevention of terrorism act'...

But that's from the BBC and ITV news bulletins so don't believe any of it.

    Crazy :

Sorry you better redefine for me because I don't see a pattern. Why did you feel ignorant about the P-47 conversations. Unfortunately it seems I had the materials in my lap as I was writing two P-47 vets that very day.
Maybe all of us need as we post from sources whether web or book, include them in our messages. Also included should be where we get all the fine fotos for our posts.....geez, this sounds a tad bit dry.....besides most if not all are copyrighted anyway, but that is another long story.

On The Knight's Forum, I have a Reuters clipping from last October which has GWB claiming that Saddam Hussein has been sending North Korea nuclear weapons disguised as crates full of cheese logs (see for yourself: it's true.)
Now, many people skimming through the news will simply accept that as fact--missing completely the story's denial, which probably occurred several weeks later (if at all.) Bits of news, odd stories, and total fabrications are always making it into the headlines: many of them "leaked" from some source in Washington. This is what makes analyzing this situation difficult: we're bombarded with lies and half-truths. (Research the story of the Gassed Kurds sometime.)
Crazy: As far as the "Aliens" issue goes, "Yes," I believe in the aliens. Makes more sense than trying to imagine mass hallucinations or some grandiose fraud perpetrated by thousands of people in hundreds of locations, for no money or publicity. The British Government recently came out and admitted there are alien visitors and that the government was withholding information. The Russian government believes they exist, too. Are you waiting for the US gvmnt to tell you if they exist or not? ;)
And speaking of the US gvmnt: they're out of control. Where's the Senate debate on Terrorism?
Where's the gvmnt report on 9-11? Where are the debates on Iraq, Korea, Venezuala? Where's that good ol' Democracy in Action that we never get tired of bragging about? We're spoon-fed the party line, and that's the end of the discussion.
It's just a big puppet show.

Erich (and all), let me stress something again- I don't think we should have to post sources with everything, and quote everything and whatnot. You are completely right- that would be dry, not to mention annoying. I would only suggest a source check if the material is sensitive (holocaust, SS, that kind of thing) or if the post has the easy potential to offend (political issues, posts about countries, etc.).

Really, I wouldn't want to be a killjoy!

On the P-47 thing- I tried to make an argument based on essentially one suspicious looking web source. I should have known better- you are rather well versed in the air war (an understatement!), and knew what you were talking about! I did the exact thing I am referring to- skipped the research part and went right into trying to push a point. And it was not a "discussion" point- it was a technical one- even worse on my part!

(btw... remember that 8th Air Force project I was working on? Saw first print run books yesterday. Wow... and this is intended for high school??? I will fit on my shelf as a legitimate source! Wish I had worked on it more! :D )

Knight, I'll just let you tell me what's up! ;)

Or look into it myself and shoot you down when I have more energy!! :D ;)

Crazy, Am I right is assuming that you make a case for "Educated Guesses" as opposed to just "Guesses"? Or "educated, verified and sourced (if that is a word...if not, I claim it) Guesses"....

Personally I like the idea of stating the source of statements and the like: we expect them in books, so why not here. It should not be a rule, of course. Just optional ;)

Knight Templar, could you please expand on the British govt part of your post as to acknowledging aliens existance...I only ask not to get into a long drawn out discussion but because I was based for years at the supposed MOD alien/ufo secret underground site in Wiltshire England which many many ufologists consider to be the main UFO British govt research facility.
To the rest, no im not writing another funny.

Ill explain on receiving anything from Knight.

    Of Aliens and the USA....

Crazy: The problem with the US is it sees itself as a force for good. Trouble is itthe playground bully. Dredging up the actual facts in order to deal with an accusation is fine, but it is far more interesting that everyone was prepared to believe the original. This illustrates the depths that the US has sunk in the estimation of many people, predominantly due to the malign influence of the Bush administration, but also because as the only superpower it is natural that countries will oppose it and people will be suspicious of it: the best way of dealing with a bully is to band together against him. Pretty standard law of Geopolitics.

Aliens: There was a sort of admission. I recall a couple of years ago that the RAF officer who covered the UFO desk said something like "we can explain 95% of the sightings but that still leaves 5% unexplained". This sparked off a media frenzy about alien landings and what the government plan was. In the USA there is a plan using armed forces, federal agents etc. In Britain it is down to the local police to initially investigate the situation. So as PC Plod wobbles towards the impact site on his Bicycle the British public can be assured that, whatever happens, the aliens will not be allowed to park illegally..."Is that your Flying Saucer sir?...yes, you see it's parked on a double yellow line..."

Thats more like it, I remember the RAF saying that now, but a lot different than saying the British govt admit there are aliens and ufo's

The involvement of the forces in investigating ufo sightings went as far as the low flying reporting unit under the auspices of the HQ RAF P and SS provost and security services.

A low levely flying report or even UFO sighting would be passed to this unit for investigation by unclassified signal to the communications centre at RAF Rudloe Manor, this would then be passed by hand to the RAF police at a surface site nearly a mile away where they were based. I point out surface site, because RAF Rudloe Manor comcen was based underground in the maze of connecting tunnels around Corsham in Wiltshire.

Ever since a connection was made with the RAF police admin bods investigating any flights that may have been in area of any UFO sightings and the fact an underground base existed but with no relation to such investigation the ufologists have been taking pics and trying to break into the associated tunnels for years.

The RAF Low flying complaints unit just investigated flight plans of all incidents to see if any aircraft were in these sighting areas, and as Jumbo states those are the figures. Most were accounted for, the rest were designated unknown reason for complaint. Not designated alien craft

The tunnels around this area are though interesting in their own rights. Searched them many times whilst on duty, a virtual museum, posters from ww2, marks in concrete where shells were unloaded, underground railway, site setup with beds, washing machines etc, teleprinter room from ww2, and on one occasion took a long walk and ended up in a high ceiling room, and guess what..the flight boards were still there from 10GP RAF where the staff fought their part of the Battle of Britian.

Ive outed myself to Bish now..RMP. He wont talk to me now, SIB whilst in Germany....

If you are RMP then I doubt anyone would want to talk to you, unless you know Tamzin Outhwaite in which case you might gather a small following on this site.

Can someone help me here, I am totally confused, Aliens? Tunnels? Invading the USA? Where did all this come from? By the way, Crazy, you mentioned Orson Wells, you need to source your source, it was HG wells who wrote the story and a great one it is at that. Anyhow, I am lost so I will just sit in the corner and go to sleep.

I'm as lost as you are Stefan - but I think Crazy was referring to the legendary Orson Welles' radio broadcast 'prank' describing the landing of alien beings so convincingly that it sent sections of the U.S. populace into a panic....

    Late '40s, early '50s ?

Oh, I know about that, I have a copy of the program in my tape player at the moment, it is an excellent recording and I can see why it was believed, particularly considering the timeing of it. It was being played on halloween eve 1938 at the same time as the top rateing show in the USA (the chase and sandbourn hour), 12 minutes into the show the weeks guest singer started and many people turned over to hear the Wells program. Because the 'War of the Worlds' was being presented as a news program many people believed it. Ironically the program that followed it began with a popular gossip columnist (Walter Winshall) announcing 'MR AND MRS AMERICA, THERE IS NO CAUSE FOR ALARM, AMERICA HAS NOT FALLEN REPEAT, AMERICA HAS NOT FALLEN!!!' which caused great alarm among those who had not heared Wells' broadcast and saw all the people running around in the streets. Incidentally 3 years later Wells was reading a Walt Whittman poem when a news anouncer burst in and shouted into the microphone 'Ladies and Gentlemen, the Japanese have bombed Pearl Harbour!' No one paid much attention and said 'there he goes again'.

There is my little bit of historical trivia.
