The Whermacht was still dominated by the Old Junkers and Prssian Aristo's in the Waffen SS it did not matter what your background was you could climb the ranks better than you could in the Whermacht. In the Whermacht you had to have the right background and the right friends. Why is is that Waffen SS officers are called leader's rather than the old style title's.

    1) This is an open forum and people are entitled to their own ideas and beliefs and therefore should not become the victim of a hate campaign just because we have different views.

    2) I explained my reasons in another thread and also I am not here to be an apologist either for the NSDAP or the Waffen SS. I answered the question as to why I would like to join.

    3) Please as if the Russians did not commit War Crimes etc etc (What about when the Soviets recieved back Soviet Pows? What did Stalin do? He sent them to the Gulag. Of course don't mention the Polish Officers that where shot by Stalin when he was friends with the Nazis.

4)You asked me a question in another thread when I replied you said or rather insinuated that I was a Troll. I reject that outright. Have I ever been rude, nasty?

Because the Waffen SS was formed after the Whermacht?
On the same lines, the name of the rank means nothing. You salute someone with a higher rank regardless of the title.

If it was Goat rather than Captain, anyone lower in rank would still have to salute him.

Well it looks like "leader" was used for a idealogical/party use. Not military.

"In line with the Führerprinzip (Leadership Principle) of the Nazi party's ideology, the word Führer was incorporated into all ranks except those for enlisted men."

I can understand your frustration as alot of people only think that you should fight for the country you were born in and nothing else. it would be easier to understand you if you said where you were from?

But we are merely curious as to why you would choose the SS over other units? Would you willingly sign up in the Totenkopf division knowing that you would be surrounded in the Demyansk pocket and likely die a horrible death?
In your location is says "Fighting in the Eastern front!" you put it almost as it was glamorous or something? All nations had pitty on those poor men fighting on the Eastern front as they had a very high death ratio and if they didnt die they came home with ghosts and pains that wouldnt leave until death.

Urqh; Goat was just the first word that entered my head. :)
JCF; yes, that is what Iwas trying to get across.
Totenkopf; When I say that I am saying it to all those non-Germans who think the German army was the best in WW2 and would rather serve in it that their own nations armies, and most of them where fighting to get rid of the scourge that was Nazism. The German army fought to retain Nazism.

Your post has humbled me sir and I understand where you are coming from. It was not for the glamour or anything else just because I respected them and because they where the elite of the axis.

Alright, I can put myself in your shoes I understand.

Although might I ask what specific unit you would have wanted to enlist in? As everyone usually has their own unique choice.

Totenkopf, you might have added that your 3rd Waffen-SS PzGren (later Pz) Div was initially formed from concentration camp guard personnel, was commanded by Theodor Eicke (Inspector of the concentration camps network and organizer of the slave labour system there), was involved in the Le Paradis massacre, its personnel doubled as concentration camp guards during their military training at Dachau, etc, etc. Great company, isn't it?

Oh, I forgot, they had sexy uniforms and wielded kewl weapons.

    Was your country neutral?

Just a note on this comment and it not necessarily directed at you specifically, but this is a good opportunity to clarify this for new members on occasion. No one enjoys "free speach" in this fourm beyond that which the owner grants.

Exactly Jeff and since this is a site where you apply to become a member it is not a "Open Forum". That is what a member means. Most people do not get that concept. Your stay here is at the descretion of the OWNER. Your stay here is according to the rules and regs and whim of the person who OWNS and created this site. And those whose powers of moderation he grants to. And who BTW are doing a hell of a job. :).
