Why were the German's uniform so much nicer than any other countries?

I mean it in the sense of it wasn't a "rebel" type underground society, it was a mainstream, internationally recognized, day-to-day way of life.

I wasn't referring to bikers when I said "side-show". Not trying to insult anyone whatsoever I'm just citing the differences in sheer scale & magnitude of a small "cult" group and an entire societal way of living.

Well, tasts are different - to me that black SS uniform looks like a bloody bus-conductor.

On the other hand, German Fallschirmjaeger or Gebirgsjaeger in Parade/Battle dress - now that's .. ;)

I'd certainly disagree with that. The US Marines and Navy had/have some very good dress uniforms as did/do the British guards in particular. I'm not familiar enough with the French to comment on them. For combat dress the British and US combat uniforms are certailny better than an all black one.

Helmet looks 1000x better than that, umm Golf Hat on the Tommy soldier. Germans have cool collar rank tabs, along with officer caps that were indeed ultra-stylish (to me at least). Even German weapons & tanks were more aggressive looking than anything the Allies had. Tiger v. Sherman?? PFFFFFttt.. gimme a break. Sturmgehwehr or MP40 v. STIG (is that right??) I rest my case. lol

BTW, anyone know what the German traditional red "dot" means that can be seen donned on their uniforms even in 1st WW? What does it symbolize? I've always wondered this. (sorry for changing subject lol)

can you specify that "red dot" more detailed?
Maybe you are refering to the "blotting out" of NAZI emblems? - however on a WWI uniform?

I've always though American uniforms were more stylish, while Nazi uniforms were for people worried about the small size of their penis

I think that the attractiveness of the German uniform is because it was really was just a hybrid service and dress uniform. Colors and "sharpness" all appeal to the human eye more then anything else; this is where the Germans win.

I forget who said it but I totally agree with the statement that US uniforms are pretty much glorified janitors garments.

The Tommy uniforms are perfect for poster boys, but their shorts really failed them in Asia.

It's ok... its just the universal law of things, the baddies always have the awesomest uniforms :D Remember, I realize that "cool uniforms" do not win battles, I 100% acknowledge that. But STRICTLY from a "bad-arse" fashion point of view, the Germans had everyone beat. No contest.

actually thats a pretty good idea (about singing) but Id prefer the badenweiler marsch..

Ah, you meant the hard core non-waffen SS like the SA, NSKK and other true racist hater scum-of-the-Earth... The sort that would have volunteered for concentration camp duty thinking it was an honor and privilage....

The colors of the German national flag were black, white, and red in both wars. The cap insignia displayed the Flag as such.

BTW, do you think the Germans did not were some horrible looking shorts too?

Umm, no.. the SS wore all-black also. But I just dont want to focus on JUST them, the Wehrmacht had some pretty spiffy looking uniforms as well.... Every branch of the German Armed Forces, miltary or paramilitary, had wicked uniforms. I think that sums it up basically.

    :D

So...to summarise the story so far....

If World War 2 were condensed into a fashion parade, and victory or defeat could be allocated purely on "stylish" lines, Nazi Germany would have been the hands down Yve Saint Laurent of the military world conflict, and would have brushed aside such poor starters as Russia (too cheap and peasanty), America (no style at all) or Britain (drab and dull...colorless).

Considering that the fashion world is ruled by cross dressing homosexuals, outdoing each-other to create something "outrageous", this is actually saying quite a lot. It means that the "gay" movement and Nazism actually have more than a little in common, ironic for all the persecution of gay people that took place in the Third Reich.

No wonder Al Pacino was dressed in leather and Nazi stuff for the film "Cruisin'"....

I quote words from a song by Dire Straits..."Le Boys"

    Le boys got leather straps,
    Le boys got SS caps,
But they got no guns now,
    Get dressed up,
    Get a little risque',
    Gotta do a bit of S & M....these days,
    It's all in fun now!

Le boys come on again, for the high class whores and the businessmen,
Who drive in their Mercedes Benz,
To a disco bar, in old Munchen....

Or to put it another way....The Story of the Film so far....

(Intro music).....Hans and Bob are SS soldiers....Hans likes nothing more than slipping into little pink cocktail frocks, while Bob buffonts his hair for a night "on duty"....but as they aren't appearing in this film we won't mention their last names...(music fades)

No, the Waffen SS didn't. Check for example:

German Military Uniforms and Insignia 1933 - 1945 WE Publishing eds.

Handbook on German Military Forces TM-E 30-451

Uniforms, Organization and, History of the Waffen SS vols 1 - 5 Rodger Bender, Hugh Taylor

Army Uniforms of World War 2 Andrew Mollo, Malcolm McGregor

The Armed Forces of World War II Uniforms, insignia and, orgainzation Andrew Mollo

The Waffen SS wore the same uniforms at the Heer did only with SS rank and badges.
