Duke already has two positive and very successful threads here already. Duke doesnt need a third thread thank you. Also, so what if Duke is a Role Model? Sure is shootin is much a better role model/""Idol"" than say--Paul Hogan or whats-his-face-who-was-in-Gladiator-is.

Whats wrong with: To the Shores of Tripoli? John PAYNE, Randolph Scott and Maureen O'Hara did very well in it. Speaking of this classic, its on TCM RIGHT NOW and im watching it before retiring for the evening.

Mr. Wayne doesnt need my support to rest easy, he's doing fine on his own but thank you for the concerns anyway.

When it concerns useless rants and mindless ravings, it doesnt metter. As for top poster? so what. I earned it by being one of two people here for a long time who were the only people posting here for several months. The other person if you care-is Erich.

Gppd, glad you finally "saw the light and the errors of your ways" to admit that SoIJ wasn't such a bad waste of Celluloid.

Ive never met Duke but I DO know a fella who acted with him in several of his Westerns, who also is a Combat Vet of the Korean War, had his own TV show for some years, helped run the Bar-26 Ranch which Duke co-owned, was willed several of Dukes weapons because he was not only a good friend of Dukes but, also one of his personal pilots as well as the man who cooked Dukes favorite meal--Chili Bills Chili. The man I speak fondly of is Mr. William T. Brooks. You can easily look him up over at: JWMB and also John Wayne

So IM about as close as anyone on this site to have at least met someone who rubbed elbows with Duke from the 1940s till his passing.

Hi Lou, sorry for my many replies, I have yet to learn that skill of one for several ;-)) Anyway, I agree, lets trash Pearl Harbor or Thin Red Line or even: Battle For the Last Panzer-as the lousiest films ever made ;-))

I went into it thinking the worst because of tommy boy being in it, but this is the first film I actually liked with him in it since he did that Military Boys School flick with George C. Scott in it as the General ;-))

Carl you are thinking of "Taps" with G.C. Scott, Timothy Hutton and Cruise. I agree it was a decent film as well.

Way too harsh 'jug, Cruise was out of his depth but I give him credit for trying. The supporting cast was good to exceptional. They got the period equipment right for the most part and did not screw-up the history too badly. The hazard for them was they tried to make a thriller when we already knew how it played out. I would give it **1/2 stars, better than average.

Compared with Inglourious Bastards, I'd say Valkyrie was an award winner.

I usually like Tarrantino movies, but that one was just dumb. Furthermore, a Tarantino movie that is half in subtitles does not work for me. Memorable lines you can repeat and laugh at with your buddies is half the fun of his movies IMO.

I find that I like parts of Tarrentino films but the complete film, save 'Jackie Brown', I cannot like in their entirety. The Christoff Walz parts were brilliant, the Brad Pitt less so and I too had trouble keeping up with the subtitles.

I have to admit that Brad Pit is pretty funny. "Areeba-der-chee!" LOL

I have always wondered though, would the world love a sequel to this movie as much as the first if Brad pit and his gang were tourturing Japanese soldiers in the Pacific?

I just saw a John Wayne film casting him as an 'investigator' for the "Un-American Activities" Commission.

It was a fine piece of propaganda, and John's performance was really not that special.

Wonder whether he was on the "Black List"? Fat chance. Too many roles like that one, helping the government sanction the McCarthyism nonsence.

I love American cultural values, but that period was an embarrassment to all. We had a politician called Robert Menzies getting elected time after time by bashing Communism. His slogan was "Reds under the bed." Laughable really, and as much a source of embarrassment to Australia as anything we've ever done.

That wasn't a WW2 movie was it. That post might be a little more appropriate in the "why I hate John Wayne" or one of the post war threads. Just a suggestion friend.

Sean Penn was in 'Taps' as Timothy Hutten's best freind, Cruise played an 'uber' soldier cadet who went down fighting.

Hi Bobby, Darren, Darren, couldnt agree more. Id take Vak over IG anytime anyday.

Hi Bob, its not any movie our controversial-marsupial-friend from the Land Down Under--saw. Rather, it was a short documentary about Duke and his testimonials there against communists in the USA and in the Entertainment Industry. Ive seen that piece several times.

Volga is wrong though. Duke was NEVER on any black list of anykind. If so? he had more than enough friends in the right places in Hollywood that it wouldnt have effected his career at all.

I sure WISH that volga boatman wouldnt try this stuff with me and about what Duke did or did not do? I will always and easily dis-spell what VG believes or THINK he believes about Duke.

Volga, ive posted THE two best places to go to on the net about Duke and his movies and life and such--WHY DON'T YOU LISTEN-and go check those places out for yourself?? Afraid of being proven wrong????????

The sites again are: JWMB & John Wayne
