I'm registered on WW2talk but haven't gone on in months. It mostly duplicates this board except for its more european / uk slant.
My knowledge base is more UK/European particularly re Canadian Forces so you'd think I would be more comfortable at WW2Talk, but I this was the first Forum I ever joined, and the Mods and Rogues charmed me so I predominantly stay here! I enjoy both Forums, but there is a different level of interaction that can happen here. As some have said, there is a general expert level on the other Forum that has me intimidated to post often. I've also not quite found my comfort zone in navigating about, however as mentioned there are many members on both Forums and they make those who are serious about WWII discussions very welcome.
As somone who has managed to keep a foot in both camps I have to admit that ww2talk is where I feel at home. This still doesn't stop me keeping a watching brief on ww2f to see that you all behave yourselves Best regards to those who still remember me Ron
Jeff Eulogies can be saved until I'm no longer around to acknowledge them (but thanks, anyway !) Michelle And I too, miss all the the nice folk here, including your good self. Best wishes Ron
Hi All. Thought I'd jump across and throw in my 2 Cents (I'm in the Eurozone, we have cents too!). I think that the Internet is all the richer for having both sites. Both have a different slant on the conflict/conflicts we all have a passion and there are a lot of members who regularly cross the divide and are quite happy to do so. and long may it continue.
Im a member of both sites ,and to be honest i like both. i may not post much or often but i try to visit each site every day and look forward to reading the posts , allan
As are two interesting Forums, I registered in both. Actually, I don't post much, but always in my readings, I discover new treasures that keep safe by subscription at certain threads. Jan.
Well WW2T is just like this one; a wealth of knowledge, the guys over there are fantastic with ww2, and in fact a lot of the members over there are registered here too. Me personally I prefer this forum over WW2T, it just has a more simpler feel to it, and it just feels right to be at this one, although since one of my main interests are the Commonwealth forces of ww2, it would make sense to hang out over at ww2t as there focus on the commonwealth forces far surpass this forums. But for me WW2F all the way.
We have a similar thread running over at ww2t in response to this one. It's nice to see the comments on both, and how members of each forum values the other - that speaks volumes for both places. While I've been a member here for a very long time, and my membership pre-dates ww2t, as you'll see my post count is low. It is largely because for much of its life this forum did not reflect much of my own research interests. However, it has always been a good read, and I do pop back regularly to see what is going on. We should all be pleased that two such places exist covering this great subject, and there can be few people with a serious interest in WW2 that aren't members of one site or other - and we should also be thankful that we have such a benefactor in Otto who funds both places; a man of his time and a true philanthrope.
I signed up for WW2Talk and can register and post my profile....and it remembers me but I cannot get an email from them to conform so I am not fully registered. Anyone know how to get that confirming email? I sent Otto a PM. I am a long time Anglophile and am very interested. GB
Great post Paul. I too am pleased that such places exist in the world of the internet. It's been a boon in my search for knowledge.
GB, if one the mods from there happen upon this, they'll fix it for you. In the meantime, I'll make sure they know of your dilema.
GB Very sorry about that, you should have got something. Will get this sorted as quickly as we can. Regards, Diane
I've just manually activated your account. Sometimes the activation mails get lost in your email trashcan. You should be able to log on ok now.
Thanks to all of you !!. Was not trying to be pushy nor set all you nice folks in motion, just thought it looked very interesting. I feel fortunate to have spent a lot of time in the UK and thought the WW2Talk forum would be most interesting. Two of the high points of my life were to have tea with Rob Walker at his home in Wiltshire. and look at his car collection and to give a lecture at Magdalene College at Cambridge. Not that I do not like sizzling Alabama !!!!......there is perhaps a third, in 1980 I stood on an abandoned 8th Airforce field east of Cambridge, now a farm , and one could imagine it being 1943. Again, my appreciation, Gaines Blackwell Auburn, AL US
Interestingly enough I was over at the athletic department today. Our daughter went to Oregon to school and lives in Seattle, she wants to come home and take a friend to the LSU game, long sold out. I designed Pat Dye's house when he was coach and we are long time friends and he offered to help me get some tickets. They keep a few back for VIP's which I certainly am not !! I oddly prefer to watch games on TV. I sit at my drafting board and listen, watch and draw simultaneously !! My version of multitasking !! Gaines
