    Thanks Jumbo.

Okay, here goes:- three part question for this one:

    1) What was the name of the most senior British (that includes British & Commonwealth) Officer to be taken prisoner in WW2 and ESCAPE?
    2) What was the name of the book he wrote?
    3) What happened to him after his escape?

Martin " Anyway, a stab at your one - Mosquito B Mk IV LR503 ?"
I should have known better than to post a question which involved a Mosquito ;)

Yes Martin, you are correct it was Mosquito GB-H ( LR503 ) [IMG]
This Mosquito flew 213 missions in the ETO, the greatest number by any Allied bomber in WW2

Wild guess - Freyberg, who later became Governor-General of somewhere-or-other?
But if he wrote a book, I've never read it...

I can see no-one will get this one, so here's the answer:

    Brigadier James Hargest.

Hargest was a New Zealander who had fought in WW1 and turned to politics by the 30s. He was in command of a Brigade at Crete and taken POW in the Western Desert. He was sent to a POW Camp in Italy, from where he escaped and made his way to Spain, then into occupied France and back to England. He wrote up his experiences in 'Escape from Campo 12'. Afterwards he became the New Zealand observer in Normandy, and was called back to NZ. He went round to visit friends one last time, when a stary mortar round killed him outright. He is buried in Hottot War Cemetery in Normandy. Quite a man!

Okay, so I'll have to think up an EASIER question this time...

It's interesting isn't it, that many people who contribute here know the inside collar measurement of every Knights Cross winner but don't know the name of the most senior British officer to escape in WW2!

Not a criticism, just an observation!

    Okay, an easier one then!

Given its poor performance against German tanks, what was the name soon given by Soviet tank crews to the M3 Grant/Lee, supplied in great numbers to the USSR before they had enough T34s to go round.

Clue - it relates to the number of crew members.

Not COME ON - I know you can answer this one!!! :D

Was it 'Grave For Six Brothers' ( it probably trips off the tongue better in the original Russian ) ?

Great ! About time for another Mosquito question :D !

An actual event which has entered RAF mythology.
On 11th July, 1942 six Mosquitoes of 105 Squadron raided Flensburg. Sgt Rowland, flying BIV DK296 brought back an unusual 'souvenir'.

    What was it ? ;)
