Hello jagdpanther44, Those days it was still the MG1, the MG3 was introduced/upgraded from 1988 onwards. The difference was that a drum-magazine with 50 rounds or an ammobox with 100/120 rounds can be attached and as such not hampering the weapon as the loose ammobelt did. It also spares the 2nd man. Not a one. I've been stuck in the US for training. We do have two Royal Navy exchange guys who I believe have been out that way.
Just asking because I lived at the base housing there. It was the Harrier training base for marines and Australians. Perhaps it was an exchange program of sorts but there were about a dozen or so marines there.
