Some of you may have heard of the disaster in Glasgow city centre on Friday night, when a Police helicopter crashed into a busy pub killing at least nine people.
The fatalities included the crew, the pilot being an old friend and colleague of mine.
David Traill was born in Larbert, Stirlingshire and worked in the same local government office as myself in the early, '80s. Our fathers worked together in the GPO at the same time. Davie was known for his outgoing personality and wit, he was also a passionate biker; I remember sitting in a traffic jam on the way home from work one night, only to see Davie cruise past on his motorbike on the wrong side of the road, no helmet on, and a glint in his eye daring someone to do something about it!
He eventually left to join the RAF, became qualified as a Chinook pilot and served in both Gulf Wars and Afghanistan. He was 51.
    RIP Davie.
