I agree. But hours of enjoyment await you. Nothing like hearing the air raid siren and knowing to get the hell out of there.

You take on an American or Japanese infantryman and have to maneuver to obtain the mobile units or aircraft

World of Tanks looks like a interesting game. Has anyone played that one? Though War Thunder looks just as good.

I played WOT awhile back, just for a little bit, but I liked it. I have friends who liked and played WOT, but they liked War Thunder more and switched over.

Excellent game. It's free and very addicting. Don't get sucked in with buying experience points. Much more satisfying building a Pzfwg. From scratch.

There is, but it's basically set during WW2.

if tanking is your thing; I find WoTanks nicer than WoThunder(tanks).
WoT has enough detail, and a plethora of tank versions and nations (Japan! France!Old British Junk!) and is fast paced; any 8 minutes of spare time = 1 round of gameplay.
    Very addictive.
Whereas WoTh/ Tanks has fewer types of tanks, it is perhaps a bit more detailed up close BUT it takes A LOT longer to progress and earn a next model.
Also the steering SUCKS ! at full speed tapping a little left or right makes your tank go in a SPIN as if it is a modern Quadbike!
    Totally unacceptable.
Also, the sighting sucks. It is VERY HARD to detect enemy tanks at distance and between rubble.
Naaaah, I gave up the tank slots in WoTh in favor for extra planes.

For flying planes , the critique is the opposite; better flying and fast progression in WoTh than in WoWarplanes.

(NB both the planes in WoTh and the tanks in WoTH favor the russian models in an unrealistic way.... becoz the makers are russian ? anyway, WoT seems to be a bit more balanced..though I find the british tanks are overly advantaged...(otherwise no-one would pick them , I guess).

I played Arma 2 for years. I'm actually getting ready reinstall it and install the "Invasion 44" mod for it to play with some buddies. It requires Arma 2 Combined Arms (Arma 2 + Operation Arrowhead)

Also, there is an Arma 2 WW2 standalone called "Iront Front" that you can buy on Steam. Infantry units, weapons, planes, tanks, etc. As I said, it's standalone, you don't need to separately purchase Arma 2. It's comparable to Invasion 44. It's pretty good.

Not sure on IFront, but their MP is a little screwed up anyway, you have to navigate to a certain webpage to find MP games, of which there aren't many.

For Arma 2, yeah, you need Arma 2 and Arrowhead... both of those I believe can be bought together which is called "Combined Arms" - Arrowhead is an expansion for Arma 2. If you buy Arma 2 separately, then buy Operation Arrowhead, both of those installed together are still considered "Combined Arms" - Then just download the I44 mod. I think you will also need the CBA mod (stands for community build addons - required for most mods from the Arma 2 community).

If you go with Arma 2/Invasion 44, I highly suggest you use "PlaywithSix" to download, install, update, and keep your Arma 2 mods organized. PlayWithSix keeps things simple. If you have any trouble, BIS Studios forums or the forums at Armaholic.com are incredibly helpful.

I was just going to suggest ARMA.
Some friends play it in a ridiculously serious manner, and while taking the piss out of them in person I have to grudgingly concede that I will join them sometime soon. It does look superb (though II was so buggy I got annoyed).
Check your specs for III though. It's a monster in full madness mode.

Other than that. Vehicle games? GTA, obviously.

ARMA 2's a bit long in the tooth now, but the modding and obsessive community kept it fresh.
Most do seem to have moved onto III now, but like I say - check your specs.
