No good, Skipper. They'll be flying at low level to come in under any dug up Wurzburg radar equipment......
Damn, I'm screwed then But wait, I'll find a Jagdgeschwader in mint condition in a few moments. Have to download them first.
No problem, Skipper - everyone knows there are entire Staffeln of 109s and 190s lying around in Russian forests..........I've been meaning to go and bag a few myself
The saga continues with a report on another forum that 14 Spitfire FR14s have been found buried under an active runway in Burma. According to this report, one of the Spitfires has been recovered in 'amazing' condition, with 'guns still fitted' and only 'rubber items having perished'. Several phrases such as the above and others have led to considerable scepticism on the other forum ( not to mention the lack of any photographic evidence ) and apparently.......it is believed......an official press release is due to me made before the end of this week................................................
In a yet further twist, a small item appeared in yesterday's Daily Mirror ( most certainly not the most trusted source... ) stating that a 'looter' had been shot dead by security guards near a cache of 54 Spitfires...................... This really is a most extraordinary story. It can really go one of two ways - it's either the biggest Warbird find ever - or the biggest hoax/flop..........
A looter shot dead, yeah right, did he have a Spitfire in his rucksack ? This reminds me of the famous Mostar bridge where people are about to dive and wait and wait and wait even longer until enough people pay cash to see a glimpse of a dive .
And the latest: Wargaming, the creator of the award-winning games World of Tanks, World of Warplanes and the upcoming World of Warships, announced today that they are fully underwriting aircraft enthusiast David Cundall’s efforts to recover the British Spitfires reportedly buried in Burma at the end of World War II. For those who want to fly them, they'd better watch out , they say they don't have their rubber anymore
Mr Cundall has just been interviewed on BBC Radio news......official announcement to be made at the Imperial War Museum later today.............. The suspense is killing !
He must have attended Steve Job's business school . Can't wait ? Will he arrive flying a spit himself?
Here's some other news- "UNIVERSITY OF LEEDS GEOPHYSICS EXPERTISE WILL BE CALLED IN TO HELP WITH THE FINAL STAGE OF LINCOLNSHIRE AVIATION ENTHUSIAST DAVID CUNDALL’S BID TO LOCATE BURIED SPITFIRES IN MYANMAR. Dr Roger Clark, Senior Lecturer in Geophysics in the University’s School of Earth and Environment, and Dr Adam Booth, a Research and Teaching Associate at Imperial College London (formerly University of Leeds) will lead a geophysical ground investigation in Mingaladon, after which the site will be excavated. It is hoped the dig can take place in January, pending final negotiations with Myanmar officials. Surveys carried out by Dr Clark and Dr Booth for Mr Cundall over the past 10 years show large areas of electrically conductive material underground. Although it is impossible to say if these are Spitfires, the location and depth of the material corroborates eyewitness reports given to Mr Cundall that Spitfires were buried at this site toward the end of World War II. Dr Clark, who leads the University’s MSc Exploration Geophysics programme, has advised Mr Cundall for more than 20 years on several projects to detect buried military relics at a number of locations in the UK and overseas." http://www.heritagedaily.com/2012/11/university-of-leeds-joins-the-hunt-for-spitfires/?
Someone at the Key Aviation Forum just posted this which I hope you'll forgive me for repeating here : - ' At a press conference today the decision was made to hold another press conference to discuss this and any other press conference. Press releases discussing the press conferences will be released and press conferences will be held to discuss press releases. Further details will be announced at a press conference'. Now - there's a man after my own heart !
This got the full treatment on National BBC TV news this evening. The interviews were full of 'it is believed that...' ' we have every reason to think that...' ' it is hoped that...' etc etc. No physical evidence of the existence of any aircraft was produced, and no photographs. Even the man from the University of Leeds who have carried out the underground radar survey pointed to the large red blob on a map and ruefully said ' Our machines can't tell the difference between a Spitfire and a load of scrap metal'. All that was finally revealed was, it is hoped that digging will commence during January 2013. I actually hope they find something, otherwise a lot of people will have a lot of egg on their faces. Quite liked the look of the young Belorussian entrepreneur who is funding the expedition, though - he looked a bit of a lad !

Hey, I see Cundall states that these shiny, new Spitfires are stored in "Canadian pine" boxes. On behalf of all Canadians, I claim ownership of 30% of those boxes! BD
