627 Sqn bombing Trophy

    This is where reearch is fun - the following informal photo ( taken in Aug/Sept 1944 ) appears in Alan Webb's history of 627 Squadron, At First Sight.....

    Sgt. Doyle's pilot, F/O Bridges, stands third from right. Sgt Doyle himself is in the same row, sixth from right ( standing alongside F/Lt Bartley DFC whose name appears on the bombing trophy ).

    The imposing figure at the left ( owner of the dog ) is Flt Lt W W Topper, whose name also appears on the trophy and who dropped the first Target Indicators on Dresden, six months later.........
