Hello Everybody ! My name is Mattias, i'm french, i live near the German border (near the town of Bitche). I study accounting and I am collector of US WW2, I am fond of ww2 history since very young (can not explain why). I also make detection with my metal detectors. I started my collection after that the son of a veteran from the 100thID come in my house in 2003 because his father (William P. Wilson, 898th AAA) left his bible in my house in January 1945. I was very affected and after this i started my worship of the US divisions who fight in my area (100thID, 26thID, 4thAD, 12thAD, 44thID). I come here to share the story of my area and I hope still learn about the story of my area (Sarreguemines/Bitche) I hope my english is not too bad for you Best Regards YD
Welcome Mattias, enjoy your stay with us here. If you have stories about Bitche, we would be very interested to hear them
Bienvenue Mattias, I envy the amount of history you find just outside your front door. Beautiful scenery too. I look forward to your posts on the US Third and Seventh Army areas. Feel free to use French and German websites. If you can point me to the good websites I will take a stab at translating on my own. To the list of divisions that fought in your area you can add the US 87th Infantry Division and the French 2e Division Blindée. Merci
Thanks ! yes ! i can add, 70thID, 35thID, 6thAD, 103thID and others ! The battle in my area last 4 months ! so we can say that a lot of units passed by my area.
Welcome to the forum. Your English is fine, so post away. We look forward to what you have to contribute.
Welcome, Mattias! I look forward to anything you have to share regarding the Sarreguemines/Bitche area. I have a relative who served in a tank destroyer battalion that was attached to the 44th, 100th and 63rd Divisions. As for your English, it seems just fine.
Welcome aboard! Heh...your English is better than a lot of kids in school here in the US today. They're forgetting how to speak, and only communicate in text anymore.
This is so true! I know several people at school who speak Klingon. I never noticed any problems with your English, French Member!
hey, skip, a lot of 'em wanta be called texicans again,(lol).bonjour m.mattais, welcome to the floating nut house.
@+ Eric
I think I'll need a translation of Eric's post. I don't understand a lick of French. I took German for a couple years in high school and all I remember is: Pizza mit senf gibt mir ein bauchweh.
I'm Texan, and would rather see Texas as an independent nation again than the "Texican" state of the US. Blah. All things preferred, though, I'd rather be up in the northwest part of Washington State again.
Oh! I'm sorry ... I thought to write a private message. That's why I wrote in French. I greeted a fellow Eric
