It is sad that we view Muslims here in the US with suspicion and hate because of what other Muslims are doing overseas and in Sydney and Ottawa. Yes those people who do those things are crazy, but I want to point out that not all of them are like that. We use the Muslims here as scapegoats for what is going on overseas, when they too hate the way that the radical Muslims overseas are acting. They despise everything that those people are doing. It's because of the radical muslims overseas that the religion of Islam a being given bad name. Not all Muslims are crazy and radical like those in terrorist organizations such as ISIS and al-Qaida, we just think that all Muslims are radical and evil because the radicals overseas are giving Islam a bad name.
I personally have seen this hatred of Muslims here in US myself. We have a family friend who is a Muslim. Since he likes the Michigan Wolverines like we do, we see him all the time at the football games. He is probably one of the coolest persons I know and he is always a great person to have around. One day before we walked into the gates to head into the stadium, he had to go to the bathroom and he couldn't find a porta-potty. He walked up to someone and asked him where there was a porta-potty. The guy looked at him and gave a bit of a scornful look and said "Get lost pal." shoved him away and he didn't help him.
This kind of stuff infuriates me. That is why when I hear of something like what happened in Ottawa and Sydney, I fear that there might be a bit of an open season on anyone who looks Muslim. We need to treat all people with respect, and one way that we can start is tolerance for those who may look like the enemy but really aren't. We may see people of the Islamic faith as enemies, but we need to look deeper and see that they are just like us and are not our enemy.

You got me wrong here. When I say "these guys" I mention the terrorists (those from Boston, Brussels, Ottawa too), not the average refugee. I'm fully aware that not all refugees are bad guys. I have nothing against honest refugees (refugees built the U.S. after all) .

One of the things I've seen mentioned over on that strategy page a number of times is apparently when discussing terrorist actions in the US AQ has standing orders for anyone who infiltrates not to contact the Moslem community in the US. Apparently they feel that there are extremly good odds that they will be informed on if they do. The FBI has even commented a couple of time on how much help they have recieved from the Moslem community here. Not to say there haven't been some terrorst but the most serious home grown terrorist action was undertaken by Christians or at least non Moslems.
